Archive Requests

For all archival requests and research inquiries, please fill out our request form here.

Be sure to include: what information you have, what sources you have checked, what information you are searching for, and how your research will be used so that we know how to best help you.

Please kindly note that we may not be able to respond immediately, but we look forward to answering your question. You can expect a response in about 3-4 weeks. Our initial response will provide an estimate of how much research time is required as well as the applicable fee.

Once you approve the fee, we will perform the research. Please be aware that you are paying for our research time, not for the information received. There may be instances when the information is not available to us.

You will receive a report and invoice once the research is complete.

Archival and Research Fees

The Rye Historical Society offers professional archivist services to individuals and organizations priced as below:

Research (Includes up to 5 scans) - $35 per hour

Scanning (Documents or Images) - $1.00 per page

Printouts or Photocopies (Plus Cost of Scanning) - $1.00 per page

Image Licensing (Other than personal use):
Non-Commercial - $20.00 per image
Commercial - $50.00 per image

Additional Terms:

  • Research questions that can be answered completely in 30 minutes or less are free of charge.

  • Fees do not include cost of mailing; additional fees may apply.

  • Delivery of scans are most often free; additional fees may apply.

  • Undergraduate and K-12 students will not be charged.

  • Fees may be changed at discretion of staff in consultation with the Executive Director.

  • Staff reserves the right to refuse excessive or inappropriate requests.

Licensing Disclaimer:

Image licensing for social media, display, publication, or anything other than personal use may be obtained for a fee of $20 per image for non-commercial for non-profits use and $50 per image for commercial use. Higher quality scans will incur additional fees.

Delivery of documents and images does not imply or include permission to publish or otherwise disseminate these materials. Materials in the collection of the Rye Historical Society are provided for personal use and reference purposes only. They may not be published in any form without further permission. Permission and licensing fees are required for lengthy quotations or publication of entire works, including complete letters, and especially images of works, such as a scan of a letter or photograph. Permission is not required to publish brief quotations.
