The founding settlers of Rye purchased Manursing Island from a local Mohegan tribe for jackets and wampum. We’ll learn how to make wampum and why it had value. We’ll learn about customs surrounding war, adoptions, alliances, and marriages made among the Europeans, Natives, and Africans.
