Lemon Balm Plants:Challenge Questions to Explore

Do you use a commercial “bug spray”? These are very harmful to all insects, including bees, butterflies, and moths, as well as to humans who eat honey.

Did you know that we have been a host to a very useful perennial plant (lemon balm) for many years in the Knapp House Colonial & Indigenous Garden?

Besides using lemon balm for culinary purposes, it is a natural (not harmful) bug repellent. You can find the lemon balm along the first row of plants on the western side of the rectangular garden. Please cut a few leaves off and either rub them on your exposed skin or soak in water and then use that tincture on your skin to prevent insect bites. There is nothing toxic nor harmful to yourself or other plants or creatures by using lemon balm as a bug repellent.😊🌿
